Today i bring you my review for the first book in the series “The Heroes of Olympus”, “The Lost Hero”.
I loved the “Percy Jackson” series, with all my heart really and, i don’t know how this man does it but, i loved this first book. It felt just like the previous and, because of the first series and the researched i did on Greek Mythology, i was guessing everything that was going on (later on the spoilers section).
Jason has a problem.
He doesn’t remember anything before waking up in a bus full of kids on a field trip. Apparently he has a girlfriend named Piper, and a best friend named Leo. They’re all students at a boarding school for “bad kids.” What did Jason do to end up here? And where is here, exactly?
Piper has a secret.
Her father has been missing for three days, ever since she had that terrifying nightmare about his being in trouble. Piper doesn’t understand her dream, or why her boyfriend suddenly doesn’t recognize her. When a freak storm hits during the school trip, unleashing strange creatures and whisking her, Jason, and Leo away to someplace called Camp Half-Blood, she has a feeling she’s going to find out.
Leo has a way with tools.
When he sees his cabin at Camp Half-Blood, filled with power tools and machine parts, he feels right at home. But there’s weird stuff, too—like the curse everyone keeps talking about, and some camper who;s gone missing. Weirdest of all, his bunkmates insist that each of them—including Leo—is related to a god. Does this have anything to do with Jason’s amnesia, or the fact that Leo keeps seeing ghosts?
If you like Percy Jackson or Greek Mythology, read this book, but the fun part is you don’t need the first series to understand the mechanics of this series. It does gives you some backround.
Rck Riordan is an amazing writer and it’s has become one of my favorite writers, it always picks me up.
I gave it 5 out of 5 and would give it a ton more.
Now for the spoilers!
This was amazing, it felt just like Percy but at the same time it didn’t.
I really liked Leo, an amazing character with much more to show. Piper had a great evolution, from a fragil little girl that needed attention to a powerful one. Jason felt a little thougher than Percy but i liked him, i still like Percy and Annabeth a lot more :P.
Since i started to read Earth a lot i got the message, the one rival was Gaia/Earth and once i read that Jason had a purple shirt ( as many others found dead) and the tattos i understood there was another camp. He always speaked of the Roman Gods and everyone around him (Gods) talked to him in that way. Also Thalia, when she said that Zeus was different the second time around and before they told Jason that the Gods were the same but with different personalities, that was what Thalia saw.
I felt this book gave me reason to read it, and discover if i was right. Really really enjoyed it. I hope the next book (i saw they were on the other camp with Percy this time around).
