Hi! I hope you had an amazing holidays with tons of fun and food!
I have been absent i know, i haven’t read a lot but i ate a lot and spent quality time with my family! I also took some of my time to watch “Edge of Tomorrow” after a long time of wanting it.
” The film takes place in a future where Earth is invaded by an alien race. Major William Cage (Cruise), a public relations officer inexperienced in combat, is forced by his superiors to join a landing operation against the aliens. Though Cage is killed in combat, he finds himself in a time loop that sends him back to the day preceding the battle every time he dies. Cage teams up with Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt) to improve his fighting skills through the repeated days, seeking a way to defeat the extraterrestrial invaders.” (Wikipedia)
I really enjoyed the movie, being a sci-fi lover, i enjoyed the aliens and the plot/storyline. We follow Rita and Cage through his training, learning more about the Mimics and how they work.
For the first time in a long time, the alien invasion is in Europe and not in the USA. For someone who is used to see only USA-alien-invasions it’s nice for a change.
Alien wise, i think the story is not very developed, they came to earth but the isn’t a lot of history behind it. We find out how they work but never what they actually want from us.
The characters have a good evolution but the movie is focused on Rita and Cage, so everything evolves around them. We only see grown in them and not around them.
Story wise, i see some holes i don’t like. How are the politics working with this war? Why is London so important? Why didn’t they already evacuated London if they knew there was a chance the Mimics won the battle?
How are the countries organized? Is every nation in cooperating?
I really felt this need to be explained and it wasn’t.
The repetitions were well executed and not tiring. They only occur in the training montage, so it’s quite quick and not all of them are showed.
I liked the humor in the movie. It’s quite simple and not “in-your-face”, not forced. The love needed to be a lot more developed. I only started to feel it almost in the end and i didn’t felt the kiss scene. I would be happy with just the good bye “I wish i knew who better”, because i felt exactly that.
Can we talk about Emily Blunt? She was amazing! A different role from what we usually see her and she did an amazing job at it. She shown Hollywood women can lead a movie. Women aren’t the weak ones. They can give motivation in a war! Really good concept to have in a sci-fi movie (where usually women are the defenseless ones). I actually think her role is much more important than Tom Cruise. He is a piece in her hands. She is the one who knows everything about this ware and this aliens. He is just doing what she told him even though she starts loosing control by the ending.
I hated the ending, really really hated. It was unnecessary, everyone would be happy with a simple, yet hero type ending. This was a fairy tale ending. In sci-fi i don’t like this type of endings, but it’s what it’s and the rest of the movie is quite good.
I have it 4 stars.
I hope you guys enjoyed this review, tomorrow there will be another of Exodus!
